The New Best 50

This volume is the final report of a three year project of the American Historical Print Collectors Society. The project involved the review of over 7000 prints published by Currier & Ives and an 'election' by the national membership AHPCS of 50 Best large and 50 Best small folio subjects.

The project recapitulates a somewhat similar Original Best 50 election conducted in the 1930s. This report presents the New Best 50 and comments on comparisons in the new and old lists. Changes in collector interest are examined and reasons for certain changes are considered.

The New Best 50 contain 19 new large folios and 31 new small folios. The quality and interest of these subjects attest to the continuing relevancy and genius of Currier & Ives.
